To know what it means to be digital can get you multiple different answers. Most of them would relate to the technology that we have today, like the digital clock on the right, which uses a combination of numbers to tell the time. Note that there are only a fixed amount of possible combinations. Another way is to represent ideas in terms of categories or classifications instead of continuous spectrums.

There are only 26 letters in the alphabet that can be combined to create words. Only a fixed amount of combinations, no matter how large that fixed number may be. Each letter represents a certain sound/pronunciation. This would make the English language digital. Unlike English, numbers are analog because no matter how close 1.45 and 1.46 are, you can always go out another decimal place to 1.452 or even further to 1.4526. There are unlimited numbers in between each number. Another example is Egyptian hieroglyphs, where each object, thing, event, etc., had its own hieroglyph. So what does it mean to be digital? It means to me that communication is simpler and easier to learn and understand because it has fixed values that make understanding easier.
